O Come, All Ye Faithful

Composition Notes

What would O Come, All Ye Faithful sound like if Sergei Rachmaninoff had reimagined it for solo piano?

In this original piano arrangement, I set out to recreate the spirit of Rachmaninoff’s late-Romantic style while transforming one of the most beloved Christmas carols ever written. Rather than preserving the hymn’s traditional major-key brightness, I reimagined O Come, All Ye Faithful in a darker, more introspective minor key, giving the melody a sense of nostalgia and quiet reflection.

Inspired by the rich harmonies and virtuosic elements that characterize Rachmaninoff’s music, this arrangement weaves lyrical themes and lush sonorities into a completely new concert work. My goal was to capture the emotional depth often found in Rachmaninoff’s compositions – a unique blend of melancholy, serenity, and hope – while remaining recognizable to listeners who know and love the original Christmas carol.
