Five Nocturnes

Composition Notes

Five Nocturnes for solo piano was originally composed at age 15 in a lyrical Romantic style reminiscent of Chopin and Liszt. I chose to revise the entire work three decades later (in 2025). My goal was to keep the original melodies and structures relatively intact while enhancing the harmonic language & technical aspects.

Nocturne No. 1 opens with a calm, introspective theme that captures the quiet stillness of night. A contrasting middle section introduces a surge of passion and dramatic tension before the music gently returns to its tranquil atmosphere and resolves with a sense of peaceful closure.

Ideal for intermediate to advanced pianists, these nocturnes combine expressive lyricism with moments of technical brilliance, making them both rewarding to play and evocative to hear.
