Composition Notes
Hampton Overture was originally composed in August 1995, but after a short attempt at orchestrating it I abandoned the process to focus on other musical projects. In late spring 1996, while studying at the Victoria Conservatory School of Music, I ran into the conductor Lawrence de la Haye and we struck up a conversation. He requested that I compose an overture for the Hampton Concert Orchestra, which he would be conducting the following year. I gratefully accepted the commission and soon afterwards began re-orchestrating and revising this previously composed work. The project was completed during the summer of 1996 and it received its premiere performance on May 5, 1997.
