Anne of Green Gables

Composition Notes

“Anne of Green Gables” is a suite for choir & orchestra that was inspired by the classic novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery. In December 2024, my wife gave me a complete box set of the Anne of Green Gables books for Christmas. I soon after started reading through them for the first time and decided to compose this orchestral suite based on the story.

The first movement depicts Anne’s train ride to Bright River station in Prince Edward Island where she will meet Matthew Cuthbert for the first time. I aimed to mimic the sound of the train moving along the tracks using a recurring motif played by the 2nd Violins and Violas, as Anne gazes out her window at the passing countryside.

NOTE: This suite is a work in progress and more movements will be added in future as they are completed.
