Composition Notes
What would “O Come, All Ye Faithful” sound like if Sergei Rachmaninoff composed & performed it on the piano? I decided to take up this challenge and compose a brand new version of this old Christmas carol back in 2017. First off, it needed to have a more melancholy tone (so switching to minor key was an obvious choice). Next, it must have lyrical melodies, rich sonorities, and virtuosic elements. I find Rachmaninoff’s music often has a sense of longing & peace in it, so I tried to capture both of those feelings in this composition.
